Pediatric Nephrology

Gain familiarity with the diagnosis and management of renal disorders in children when you rotate through a regional center for comprehensive, state-of-the-art pediatric care.

Our pediatric nephrology elective provides you with experience caring for young patients in hospital and ambulatory care settings. 

You’ll work alongside knowledgeable pediatric nephrologists. We’ll expose you to percutaneous renal biopsies, and we’ll familiarizes you with the use of different renal replacement techniques in pediatric patients.

We'll help you strengthen your knowledge in the areas of:

  • interpreting laboratory studies related to kidney disease
  • blood pressure monitoring
  • interpreting X-ray studies of the kidney

You may have opportunities to learn about issues patients face as they transition from pediatric to adult care.

Years Taken

Take one module in year 1 or year 2.

Patient Population

Your patients may have conditions including:

  • inherited kidney disease
  • acute kidney injury
  • fluid and electrolyte homeostasis disorders
  • high blood pressure
