Buffalo Psychiatric Center

Buffalo Psychiatric Center exterior.

This facility treats chronically, persistently ill patients who require long-term inpatient psychiatric care.

Buffalo Psychiatric Center provides inpatient, outpatient, residential, vocational and wellness services to adults with serious mental illnesses. It has 186 beds divided into seven units that each serve 25 to 27 individuals.

Primarily, the center accepts transfers from the psychiatric units of general hospitals in the area, taking on individuals who need extended rehabilitation and recovery services. Most have severe psychiatric illnesses such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

As part of your inpatient psychiatry rotations, you will provide treatment, rehabilitation, support, crisis, self-help and empowerment services designed to help these individuals recover and resume their lives in community settings.

You will do up to two months of your first- and second-year inpatient psychiatry rotations at this site. You may also design electives for this site.
