GME Training Program Administrator Award of Excellence

This award recognizes a training program administrator who exhibits superb skills in the management of a residency or fellowship training program and contributes in a positive way to the learning environment of residents and fellows.


Training Program Administrators who are responsible for the management of a residency or fellowship training program sponsored by the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences with three or more years of experience in GME are eligible.

Award Criteria

  1. Extraordinary program management in all areas of GME (accreditation, human resources, finance, education and electronic Resident Management System);
  2. Possesses exceptional written, verbal, digital, problem-solving and organizational skills;
  3. Demonstrates compassion, integrity and a commitment to improve performance; 
  4. Is currently involved in a process improvement project;
  5. Demonstration of collaborative spirit; role model to other TPAs;
  6. Makes positive contributions to UB Graduate Medical Education through participation on local, regional or national committees, work groups and presentations in support of peer to peer education.


A minimum of three narratives must be submitted.

The nomination should address each item listed in the award criteria (100 words or less) and cite examples to support each criteria statement.

Submissions that do not cite examples of each of the items (1-6 noted above in the award criteria) cannot be considered.

Required Nominations

One nomination is required from both:

  • program director
  • peer training program administrator

Additional Nominations

Submit one additional nomination from any of these constituencies for a total of three:

  • resident or fellow
  • faculty member
  • UB-affiliated hospital leader

Funding Details

An award of $900 will be granted to an exemplary candidate restricted to registration at or travel to a national meeting or may be used toward tuition fees for an enrolled degree program. Award must be claimed by December 31, 2019.


  • Tuesday, February 19, 2019: Call for nominations
  • Monday, April 8, 2019: Completed application packets are due to the office of Graduate Medical Education via the online submisson form.
  • Wednesday, May 1, 2019: We notify award recipients.
  • Tuesday, May 21, 2019: Awards ceremony at the combined GMEC/Program Directors’ Advisory Committee Meeting. Reception to immediately follow.
