Family Medicine Interest Group

As a member of our Family Medicine Interest Group, you’ll network with family medicine physicians and residents, develop professionally and refine your clinical aptitude while gaining a deeper understanding of our field.

Some of our activities include:

  • biannual trips to rural communities to visit hospitals and family medicine practices
  • community outreach projects, such as a national campaign to educate kids about the dangers of tobacco
  • lunchtime presentations on primary care topics
  • quarterly dinners at the homes of family medicine faculty to discuss practice and lifestyle topics
  • an end-of-year dinner where students who've matched to family medicine residencies discuss the application process
  • opportunities to attend regional and national conferences
  • participation in the Erie County Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians

We also host an annual clinical skills workshops where you’ll work alongside residents to learn a range of procedures, such as:

  • IUD placement
  • colposcopy
  • endometrial biopsy
  • circumcision

You may participate in our group as much or as little as your schedule allows. Active participants may apply to our department for financial assistance to participate in one of our global health trips.
