Our family medicine residency program is the second oldest in the country, with a rich tradition of excellence that’s only matched by our steadfast commitment to prepare and inspire today’s residents to rise to tomorrow’s health care challenges.
As New York State’s largest family medicine residency, our program hosts three distinct training tracks — plus a concentration in global health and academic faculty development — so you can get on the direct path to your dream career.
Whichever track you choose, you’ll follow a panel of patients throughout residency as our dedicated faculty supervise your progress.
Our comprehensive curriculum encourages you to think critically and make sound medical decisions as you acquire all of the skills necessary to embark on a successful family medicine career.
Our rotations offer you the most up-to-date training in procedures and clinical care, while our conferences and seminars form the foundation on which to practice evidence-based family medicine and engage in life-long learning.
To thoroughly prepare you for your exams, we incorporate ample board review throughout our didactic curriculum.
Because we’re affiliated with numerous clinical sites, we can select the ideal environment for your training — from large academic hospitals and health centers to small neighborhood clinics and specialty practices.
When you graduate, you’ll be well prepared to take on the complexities of primary care and succeed in any clinical milieu.
We dedicate four and a half months of our curriculum to electives.
That translates to more time for you to refine your skills, pursue your clinical interests or discover new ones.
Choose from our extensive array of electives covering the breadth of family medicine specialties, work with our faculty to develop an elective tailored to your career goals or engage in research.
Graduates of our program go on to fulfilling careers in private practice, clinics and hospitals locally, around the country and in Canada.
Included in our ranks are:
Our faculty are primary health care leaders who are as dedicated to providing exemplary care to our patients as we are to sharing our expertise with you.
We’re also nationally recognized researchers. Our department houses its own Primary Care Research Institute, which is dedicated to supporting your scholarly projects, helping you publish and present — and, if you so choose, guiding you toward an academic career.
