Evaluation of Positive Direction® Model for Pregnant Women Affected by Substance Use

The Positive Direction® Model is a longitudinal, person-centered and goal-driven intervention that educates mothers about Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome, along with addressing their psychosocial/emotional needs to improve self-efficacy, enhance recovery, parenting and maternal health outcomes for the mother and exposed infant. This project will not deliver the program, but instead provide external evaluation of the model implementation in Erie County, NY.

Abstract

The Positive Direction® Model is delivered by Positive Direction® Associates. This model has the potential to dampen the devastating impacts that SUD has on maternal health, families, and generations that follow. Through this secondary data analysis of longitudinal enrollment in the intervention, we will evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of the Positive Direction® Model for pregnant women with SUD. We will also make recommendations to the Erie County Opioid Epidemic Task Force and local organizations for innovative system changes to get moms with SUD into the Positive Direction Model® and sustained recovery.
