The rationale for this proposal evolved as a result of work done by the applicant team on implementing the Erie County Department of Health SAMHSA Peer Demonstration initiative. While leading the recruitment and vetting of over 20 Peer candidates for this initiative, we realized how many people in recovery, interested in becoming a Peer, are siloed and isolated. The career path for prospective recovery peers lack structure, especially in medical care settings such as primary care. This void in the path to a strong Peer Workforce is the basis for this proposal.
