WE-BRIGHT Network

The Worldwide Extension of Buffalo’s Research Innovation Group in Hem/Onc Talent (WE-BRIGHT) Network is inspiring transformation through mentoring and instruction in oncology to produce next-generation cancer care scientists.

Overview

This network was designed to foster participation and collaboration among students, staff, and faculty from a diverse range of disciplines, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, engineering, the arts and sciences, public health, and policy.

Your unique perspectives and expertise are not just welcome, but integral to the success of this initiative. We value your contribution and look forward to your participation.

Vision

Making cancer education in Buffalo a priority — exciting, creative, gratifying and caring.

Learning should be an enjoyable and inspiring experience, and we are committed to making it accessible to all. This vision is not just about education, but about creating a community of learners who are excited and inspired by the work they do.

Research Initiatives

To be innovative and adapt to the ever-changing world, research is essential.

In particular, every student, resident and fellow needs to possess the ability to succeed in a data-driven society. Our program explores health care research and the value, benefits and practical ramifications of the effective dissemination of it. Furthermore, the WE-BRIGHT initiative promotes collaboration through longitudinal research projects.

Specific research initiatives and projects offered by the WE-BRIGHT program include, but are not limited to:

  • shared decision-making of care
  • preventive health care services
  • outreach and impact of social determinants of health
  • implementation science
  • informal care
  • diversity and inclusion in clinical trials
  • comparative effectiveness research and evidence generation from real-world data
  • utility of technology-focused AI tools
  • translational research

How It Works

Stakeholders and educational establishments are invited to step forward and help with the WE-BRIGHT research, becoming involved through planning and implementation.

Integrating student involvement in research is a complex strategy that involves dedication, resources and careful planning. Our program provides a supportive and research-focused environment that significantly improves students' educational experiences and prepares them for future success in their academic and professional pursuits.

The process of involvement is carefully designed to be manageable and rewarding, with clear steps and support along the way. Promoting a robust research culture necessitates highlighting research significance, supplying essential resources, and acknowledging student accomplishments.

Allowing students to join properly accredited research labs will enhance the existing experiment and allow for students to grow into healthy research habits. This is further reinforced by the collaborative efforts of WE-BRIGHT to provide a network of mentors, resources and opportunities for growth for the student and lab in tandem.

Enhancing Student Participation in Research

Our main objective is to give students research abilities that they may use both within and outside of the classroom.

WE-BRIGHT-conducted research serves as a priceless addition to the current curriculum for students. Participation in this research will emphasize the value of rigor, academic integrity, and appropriate lab behavior. Additionally, it promotes creativity, innovation, and enhances analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Your involvement in Hem/Onc research initiatives is not just beneficial, but crucial to the success of the program. It enhances your academic experience and equips you for future academic and professional achievements.

This guide examines the benefits, tactics, and best practices for including students in research, including skill enhancement, career progression, educational development, and promoting inclusivity and diversity.

Thus, specific strategies and resources provided by the WE-BRIGHT program to support and enhance your participation in research include offering cancer-specific data and equipping research skills to experiment.
