Support Services

Doctors exchange data in a hallway.

Our services encompass biostatistical support infrastructure, research implementation infrastructure, clinical analytics infrastructure, clinical/population health research support, and population health research mentorship infrastructure.

The Division of Population Health is introducing a pool of clinical and population health research services to support population health research across the Department of Medicine.

Our innovative support services are available to all faculty, residents and fellows across the 14 divisions in the Department of Medicine at the Jacobs School.

Five Critical Areas Across Population Health

Biostatistical support infrastructure

A team of PhD and master’s level statisticians is creating a reliable and user-oriented statistical service that can support researchers in designing, analyzing and disseminating quantitative research findings.

The team conducts a suite of services including project development and analysis plans, conducting analyses, conducting sample size calculations, supporting grant applications, reviewing codes, and organizing methods and results for abstracts and manuscripts.

Research implementation infrastructure

Regulatory and program coordination specialists support investigators across the lifespan of population health research projects.

This can include onboarding/training on processes to ensure integrity of research efforts, regulatory support including protocol approval and auditing, document creation including assessment and recruitment flyer creation, and data management oversight — including auditing of documents and support of data entry procedure development and maintenance.

Clinical analytics infrastructure

Our statisticians and analysts supports informed decision making within the Department of Medicine, UBMD Physicians’ Group practice plan and clinical partners.

Count on this team to provide statistical support for design and analysis of quality improvement projects, system level implementation initiatives, and data driven operations decisions. Working with the existing systems, the team adds value through methodological and analytic expertise to expand existing work and support new initiatives.

Clinical/population health research support

A team of research program assistants support investigators in the conduct of clinical and population health research projects. This can include a variety of recruitment methods to identify possible participants, consenting of study participants, completion of study assessments across a variety of formats, and study retention activities.

The team is trained in community engaged research principles and ethnical conduct of clinical and population health research to allow support for diverse studies.

Population health research mentorship infrastructure

Our division is developing a series of standing meetings to provide mentorship across training levels for population health research. Meetings will facilitate career development for medical and graduate students, residents, post-doctoral scholars, and junior faculty. We use a team-based approach to facilitate one-on-one, group and peer mentorship.

We focus mentorship on both didactic training and experiential training. Didactic sessions cover topics relevant to trainees at multiple training levels and facilitate peer-learning. Experiential training is targeted to the career stage and identified skills mentees aim to develop.
