Roswell Park combines providing comprehensive cancer care with conducting vital research into cancer, with more than 120 beds and an extensive outpatient practice. Its integration of research, treatment and educational programs have met rigorous national standards and made fundamental contributions to reducing the burden of cancer. Patients visit it from all parts of Western New York and northern Pennsylvania.

The institute’s consistent success in these areas have earned it the National Cancer Institute’s designation of “comprehensive cancer center.” It is the only facility in Upstate New York to hold this honor and one of only 40 such centers in the United States.

Training and Special Facilities

Rotations through the neuro-oncologic service at RPCI provide residents with focused neuro-oncological training including management of cranial and spinal neoplasms as well as Gamma Knife therapy.

Neuro-oncology clinics and conferences are held in RPCI.

Within the operative suites at RPCI, neurosurgical cranial and spinal procedures are performed. In addition, RPCI houses the region’s only intra-operative MRI.

Patient Population

  • hematology-oncology patients
  • immunocompromised patients (with prolonged neutropenia or receiving intensive immunosuppressive regimens)
  • patients with primary immunodeficiencies (e.g., chronic granulomatous disease)
  • bone marrow transplant recipients
