Understanding the role of oral microbiota in the pathogenesis of Crohn’s disease

Crohn’s disease is a multifactorial disease associated with high morbidity and decreased quality of life. Recent epidemiological studies suggest that periodontal disease is associated with Crohn’s disease. However, the underlying mechanism behind the association has not been identified. My thesis project aimed to investigate the mechanisms that underpin the links between Crohn’s disease and periodontal disease.
