A paper by a team of faculty members from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center continues to garner outstanding recognition as it has become the most cited publication in the journal Microorganisms during the past two years.

The authors of the manuscript titled “Microbial Biofilm: A Review on Formation, Infection, Antibiotic Resistance, Control Measures, and Innovative Treatment,” are from four different departments at the Jacobs School and one has a joint appointment at Roswell Park.
The paper provides a comprehensive analysis of biofilms, including their formation, impact on health, antibiotic resistance, and novel therapeutic approaches.
Satish Sharma, MD, associate professor of urology at the Jacobs School, is first author on the paper published June 19, 2023.
As of March 27, 2025, the article has achieved a significant milestone, reaching a global audience with 51,507 views; over 7, 749 downloads; and more than 401 citations.
