Dear students,
Preceptors do more than teach clinical skills—they share their time and expertise to support your growth as a medical professional. A single preceptor can make a meaningful difference in your learning experience. If you’ve trained under a preceptor, they are most likely a volunteer faculty member at the Jacobs School.
You are invited to pause, reflect, and think about the preceptor who encouraged you the one that challenged you or make you feel that you belong, and write a brief thank you note to let them know their dedication mattered.
In this link you can do that. We will feature those notes in faculty appreciation initiatives.
Deadline is April 30, 2026. We appreciate your participation in advance.

Another update here regarding the graduation party, and this one is pretty big so please read this message if you’re interested in attending!
The venue for the graduation party has changed from Templeton Landing to The Admiral Room (237 Main St). Everything else will remain the same, except the filet will be replaced by a beef tips dish (still delicious, I’m sure).

Hello, my fellow future physicians,
Can you believe that graduation is only a month away? It feels like just yesterday that we were all shuffling into the ALC for orientation, unaware of the amazing memories and incredible friends that we’d make over these last four years. We’ve reached the end of the road, and it’s only fitting that we all get together for one last big bash to celebrate!
The Parents Council organizes a graduation party every year, and I truly hope that all of us can make it. Details are below, as are instructions on how to RSVP and register:

Happy Friday!
Reminder that all yearbook things will be due this Sunday, February 1st at 11:59pm.
What's due again? Here's a handy little checklist.
• Order a yearbook via the Yearbook Order Form - they cost $0!
• If you want an individual page for the yearbook, make sure these 2 things are done:
• Upload a maximum of 5 photos to the Box to be included throughout the yearbook.
2. Submit your blurb/quote (if you want one) via the Yearbook Order Form. If you already submitted an order form and forgot to add a blurb, just submit another form. You would still only get one physical yearbook.
• Nominate classmates for superlatives via the Superlative Nominations Form.
There will be NO EXTENSIONS for these deadlines. This is so the yearbook can be completed on time. If you have a friend who would love to be in the yearbook, but tend to not check emails or GroupMe, please reach out to them! Thank you!
Have a marvelous weekend!

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all doing well! I am reaching out with a request. To support our M2s during their Step 1 dedicated study period, we’re putting together small notes of encouragement to remind them they’re supported and not doing this alone.
We’d love your help. If you’re willing, please submit a short message of support—a sentence or two is perfect. It can be encouraging, funny, reassuring, or just a simple “you’ve got this.” Every note makes a difference during what can feel like a long and stressful stretch.
You can submit your messages here: Notes of Encouragement. We’ll compile and share them with students throughout their dedicated period.

Hello All!
I am reaching out to share important information about Thesis Honors. Thesis Honors is a long-standing distinction intended to recognize outstanding academic achievement in a specific area of study by individual medical students and to encourage scholarship while pursuing the Doctor of Medicine degree as an ongoing endeavor.
Thesis Honors is awarded for a meritorious thesis based on an original contribution to medical science by a medical student working under the sponsorship of a faculty member of the Medical School. This usually implies original laboratory or clinical research, but contributions to ethical or historical aspects of medicine will also qualify. The possible field of subjects is wide, but emphasis will be placed on clear writing and evidence of creativity.
It is difficult to present a precise set of criteria by which a Thesis Honors should be evaluated. Certainly, the report should represent a coherent and well-crafted account of an equally well-designed investigative project, conforming to the standards expected for a publishable paper. In all but exceptional circumstances, the work presented should be based upon a more extensive commitment to the research endeavor than an isolated summer fellowship or an elective rotation. The fact that medical students have, within the normal curriculum, a limited time available for such projects is kept in mind. Please review the attached Guidelines for Thesis Honors.
More information about the Thesis Honors designation is available here. The process may be initiated at any time during medical school. There are two options for thesis submission:
Option 1: End of M3 Year: Letter of Intent Due June 15, 2026 by 11:59pm
Thesis Due August 1, 2026 by 11:59pm
Notification by September 1 (To be included in Dean's Letters)
Option 2: M4 Year: Letter of Intent Due February 1, 2026 by 11:59 p.m.
Thesis Due March 1 by 11:59 p.m.
Notification by April 1st (To be noted at Graduation)
A major advisor (or co-advisor) who is a medical school faculty member must sponsor a project submitted for a thesis. The Thesis Honors Committee will appoint a suitable review committee that will include several faculty members to evaluate the thesis. After reviewing all theses, the committee will make its recommendations to the dean.
Any student in the third or fourth year who plans on submitting a thesis (using the Option 1 or 2 as stated above) must submit a short letter of intent (by email only to
Thesis and Research Mentor Letter of Support should be emailed to Dr. Bordonaro (
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Fall: Application opens 7/15/26, Due 8/15/26 by 11:59 p.m.
If you feel that you may qualify for Research Honors this semester, please go to the website and review the requirements and apply.

Hi JSMBS Class of 2026,
Hope the school year is going well for all. This email is a reminder to submit your nominations for the Siegel Awards, recognizing excellence in education throughout our academic community.
The Siegel Awards provide an opportunity for students to recognize distinguished individuals who have impacted their education throughout medical school. Lecturers, small group leaders, anyone you worked with during clerkships (interns, residents, fellows, and attendings), volunteers, even M3s and M4s are all eligible for nomination. Don't forget to think about people you worked with during the end of the last school year (after April) or people you worked with throughout your medical school career and have not had the chance to nominate.
It is the quality of your nomination that matters, so please try to include specific examples that explain why this person should win. You may make more than one nomination, just submit another nomination form.
We would also like to introduce our new method for submitting Siegel Awards nominations, in which we have partnered with the Medical Education and Educational Research Institute to create a unified nomination process. Please note that all previous nominations will be reviewed in the same process as nominations via the new form. Also note that there will be a link to this form embedded in all MedHub evaluations moving forward, which will provide ease of access!
Here is the link for the new nomination form: 2025-2026 Siegel Awards Nomination Form
We will be accepting submissions until the (currently tentative) deadline of February 16th (2/16/26) at midnight.
Thank you in advance for helping us acknowledge great teachers in our community!

Hello all!
During intersession on Tuesday, January 6th, at 8-9:30am we will be having a session called “Principles of Trauma Informed Care and Gender Affirming Care”. We are looking for M4s/M3s who are willing to be small group facilitators for this session. The M3 class will get cases and questions sent out ahead of time, but as a group facilitator, you will also get a discussion guide for key points we hope each group will take out of each case. Your role would just be to pose these questions to the group and facilitate conversation in your small group by asking supplemental questions that will be found in the discussion guide and sharing some of the key takeaways that might not be discussed in your group.
If you are an M3 or M4 interested in being a group facilitator, you can sign up on this sign up sheet (

Greetings!
We are delighted to announce that our newest Family Medicine Residency Program has received initial accreditation at St. Luke's Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, PA. While this program is new, it is part of the St. Luke's University Health Network, which is home to more than 50 residency and fellowship programs and boasts over 150 years of experience in training and preparing resident physicians for independent practice.
We are seeking applicants who are eager to grow with us and who are committed to serving the surrounding community with compassionate and competent care. Our program number in ERAS is 1204100015. Virtual interviews will begin in just a few weeks, and we encourage your students to apply as soon as possible for consideration.
Our specific program website is currently under construction and will be live soon. In the meantime, we invite you to visit our St. Luke’s GME website

I'm Harsh Moolani, a recent UMiami med school graduate who just survived the couples match with my fiancée at UVM.
We lived the impossible choices med students fear: whose career matters more? How to rank 300+ combinations? What to sacrifice?
So, we built a free tool to help couples and students love it!
Couples Match Tool couplesmatchtool.com/ Click or tap if you trust this link and transforms emotional deadlocks into clear decisions by:
- Quantifying the unquantifiable with an algorithm centered around personal preferences, distance, etc.
- Ending the "my career vs. yours" tension
- Converting gut feelings into strategic rankings

Dear Class of 2026,
Congratulations on submitting applications and we hope your fourth year is off to a great start! You may have already seen emails about our new fourth-year elective course offering, but we wanted to share a quick overview for anyone interested in learning more before registering.
The course is entitled: IDM823: Advocacy in Medicine: Transforming Healthcare Through Activism.
It will be offered:
Both offerings are still open! If you’d like to register, please reach out to Shannon. Registration will remain open until the first day of each block, so you can always add it later if your schedule changes.
Please note, there will not be any required lectures from Thursday, November 27 through Monday, Dec 1, during block F, in observance of Thanksgiving.
The course will be fully remote, meaning you will not be required to be in Buffalo throughout the four weeks. However, there will be 3-4 hours of mandatory, synchronous lectures on Zoom each week, tentatively on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. The course is pass/fail.
We know many of us are passionate about various advocacy topics, but we graduate medical school without the tangible skills to impact policy, create new initiatives, make sustainable change, or get involved politically. The purpose of this course is to develop those skills, such as connecting with stakeholders, effective communication and outreach, and op-ed writing, so that you can leave Jacobs with the confidence to be a leader and an advocate in whatever specialty you enter.
As part of the course, you’ll design an advocacy campaign around a topic you care about, applying what you learned in a practical way.
This is the pilot year of the course, and we’re excited to be serving as the TAs for both blocks. Feel free to reach out to either of us with any questions or if you’d like to hear more about what to expect!
Sincerely,
Daniela Falcone and Madison Clague

Hello M4's,
We have a few openings for M4 medical students to join us on a UB Global Health Trip to Jamaica December 13-20, 2025. If you're interested and available or if you have any questions, please let me know ASAP (preferably before this Friday morning, 10/10). See details about the trip below and attached.
If you're interested in joining us, you can either use your vacation time or possibly elective time. As electives are 4 weeks and this trip is only 1 week, I can work with you to design an elective for the remaining 3 weeks that would suit your interests.
We'll be providing primary medical care in the Blue Mountains of eastern Jamaica. The people in these mountains have little or no access to health care.
Cost is $80-90 per person per day plus airfare. We'll be immersing ourselves in the culture and staying with host families. In addition to providing basic medical care, we'll be learning a lot about the people and culture of eastern Jamaica as well as learning about global health.
Schedule in Jamaica
Day 1: Travel to Jamaica, Blue Mtns
Day 2: Get to know the community, organize our clinical supplies and prepare for clinic work and home visits (for those who can't get to the clinic)
Days 3-6: Clinic work and home visits all day
Day 7: Leave Blue Mtns - debrief and spend a relaxing day at the beach (stay overnight in a hotel)
Day 8: Travel back home
Please let me know if you have any questions or if you might be interested in joining us.

Good morning everyone,
I hope you all were able to have a fantastic weekend. I wanted to share an update on a new way for students to provide feedback directly to Polity and your class representatives.
Each class now has its own Microsoft Form where you can share input to Polity relating to curriculum, student life and services, administrative policies, social event suggestions, and more. These forms will help identify recurring themes, highlight class- and school-wide priorities, and maintain a record of student perspectives that can be shared during meetings with administrators.
While this may seem similar to On-the-Fly, it serves a different purpose. While On-the-Fly reports to administrators directly, this form serves as a channel where your feedback reaches your representatives directly. This allows us to maintain a real-time pulse on the class while complementing existing feedback systems.
These forms are anonymous by default and will be shared with the representatives of your year along with Polity E-Board members. Access to each form will rotate to new representatives as roles turn over, so the system stays sustainable and tied to each class.
Below is the link to your class’s form:
https://forms.office.com/r/1x6WAuH9jh
Thank you for continuing to share your voice and drive progress within our school. I hope everyone has a fantastic week.
Best regards,
Luke Hobika
