A first-year medical student practices an occular ultrasound scan on faculty advisor Dan Mirsch, DO, during a Halloween community event.
The simulation committee is a group of medical students focusing on simulation techniques and are the liaisons to the student body as well as the public.
The Center also supports learner-driven practice through initiatives such as Sim Squad. In small-group sessions, students spend dedicated time with task trainers to refine procedural skills, ask questions, and practice techniques at their own pace.
This “open gym” approach encourages curiosity, repetition, and confidence-building outside of formal coursework.
Simulation committee has opportunities during regular meetings to learn about different medical procedures, and gain competency in these areas. This includes airway management, central lines, arthrocentesis, paracentesis, thoracentesis, ultrasound-guided IV placement.
Once competency has been proven, if there is interest, students can train to run the simulators and design their own cases. These "simulation TAs" are the liasons between the simulation centers and the various student interest groups that would like to hold events within the center.
