We in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences stand with the University at Buffalo community in condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We are in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, Ukrainian-Americans in Western New York, across our nation, and around the world.
Our mission is to alleviate suffering and improve health and wellness across the life span for the people of New York and around the globe. In keeping with our mission, I urge our Jacobs School community to join us in support of the people of Ukraine in this time of need.
Locally, our medical students participating in the UB Global Health Ukraine Program are fundraising and gathering medical supplies to send to frontline hospitals in Kyiv and Lviv. Volunteers at the Dnipro Ukrainian Cultural Center, founded by Ukrainians displaced by World War II and located a few miles from our downtown campus, are working to provide humanitarian and medical aid to the people of Ukraine.
On the global stage, respected and trusted groups working to assist the people of Ukraine during this growing crisis include UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as the U.N. Ukraine Humanitarian Fund.
We are a global community of students, faculty, and staff with ties to various regions of the world. Counseling is available to help students navigate through these difficult times; the Employee Assistance Program offers similar support for our faculty and staff.
Our Ukrainian families, friends, neighbors, and citizens everywhere need and deserve our support. I know you will join me in providing the aid and comfort they need, to the best of your ability.
