The Department of Medicine has developed a strategic plan to
expand specialty clinical services and attract exceptional
residents, fellows and faculty to the area.
The three-year plan calls for building a clinical practice that
will be a major regional provider of patient-centered care.
The department will expand specialty clinical services in
internal medicine, geriatrics and medicine-pediatrics, and develop
its subspecialties including cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology,
pulmonary, critical care, sleep medicine, gastroenterology,
hepatology and nutrition.
In addition, the department will:
- expand clinical and translational research through
investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials
- build on its strong partnerships with area hospitals to deliver
inpatient and outpatient care
- attract and retain talented faculty and staff
- forge a strong departmental identity founded on excellence,
collaboration and innovation
Achieving these goals will help the department serve as a
regional magnet while improving health care throughout the
