Journal Club

Participation in the journal club will help you learn how to locate, appraise and assimilate information from scientific studies related to your patients’ health problems and will enable you to understand the role of evidence-based medicine (EBM) in clinical decision making and quality of care delivery.

During your second and third years, you will have the responsibility to present at journal club at least once during the residency. When you are not presenting, you will have the responsibility to have read the article and be prepared to participate in small group discussions.

Providing excellent care requires a strong critical ability to search, read and interpret medical literature. Active participation in our journal club helps you formulate useful clinical questions, find relevant research and appraise it using accepted criteria to reach the most informed decisions possible for your patients’ well-being.

You will be evaluated by the faculty and chief residents present at journal club for the educational objectives at the conclusion of the EBM presentation using an EBM evaluation sheet.

Frequency

Once per module, all residents attend except those on nights or a unit.
