Addiction Psychiatry

A general inpatient psychiatry unit at ECMC hosts our addiction psychiatry rotation.

You will see patients with a spectrum of addiction problems, including:

• alcohol use disorders (60 percent)
  
• opiate use disorders (25 percent)
  
• sedative hypnotic use disorders (10 percent)
• other substance use disorders (5 percent)

• 5 percent younger than 20
  
• 20 percent ages 2 to 30
• 25 percent ages 31 to 40 
• 30 percent ages 41 to 50 
• 15 percent ages 51 to 60
• 5 percent older than 60
• 68 percent male
• 32 percent female
• 87 percent Caucasian
• 12 percent African-American
• 1 percent other ethnicity
