My boyfriend (Brett Kemp) and I (Kathleen Whitbread) graduated in 2015. Brett and I met the very first day of medical school when we arrived in Gross Anatomy lab to meet our cadaver and found out that we had been assigned as Gross Anatomy lab partners. When I started medical school Brett was single, but I was in a 5 year relationship with my college boyfriend. However, the chemistry that Brett and I had went far beyond our superficial relationship as Gross Anatomy partners and it only took a couple of months for us (me, really) to realize this. We started spending more time together even outside of the lab and the rest is history.
As medical school came closer to the end we had to make the decision as to whether or not we were going to couples match together for residency, and by year 3, this seemed like quite the obvious decision. We each interviewed at about 15 different programs (Brett in Family Med, me in Internal Med) to increase our chances of matching together and spent hours coming up with our match list - a task that truly required patience, selflessness, and sacrifice on both our parts.
We ended up matching together at our number one program on our match list, University of Vermont. We are now more than half way through our second year of residency up here in Burlington and I could not ask for a better soul mate to have had by my side throughout this crazy process!
