Janet Shalwitz, MD '77 and Burt Feuerstein, MD '78, PhD

We met on the first day of medical school orientation.  Burt got up in front of our class and played the old grand piano in the lecture hall.  Janet was hooked!  Before long we were studying, playing and living together.  We got married  at the end of our 3rd year surgical rotation and our first child was born soon after Janet's graduation.  We moved to San Francisco in 1979 where we had a very hectic and fulfilling life, raising our 3 kids (Jesse, Sam, Jeanne) and training at UCSF.  Janet worked in adolescent/young adult medicine at the San Francisco Dept of Public Health and Burt was in Lab Medicine at UCSF.  We moved to Phoenix in 2006 and are now happily retired.  We love gardening, exercising, creating art, traveling, Jewish spirituality, being with our old and new friends, and most of all...spending time with our kids and 6 grandkids in Buffalo and Denver when the snow disappears.

UB has always been in our lives.  Other grads include Janet's dad (Medicine), Burt's dad (Dentistry), Janet's brother (Medicine), Burt's sister (Architecture), Burt's brother (Dentistry), Janet's sister (Social Work), son Jesse (Law), son Sam (Law), daughter-in-law Kim (Law). And, our grandson Noah went to UB Basketball Camp!
