Dear Future Resident Anesthesiologists,
Welcome to the University at Buffalo Anesthesiology Residency Program! We are thrilled to have you join us as you embark on your training. As residents in the sole anesthesiology residency program within the second largest metropolitan area in New York State, you will be exceptionally well trained through experience in a multitude of hospital settings. Among these settings, graduates of our program train at a large-volume cardiac and neurological center, a Level I trauma center, a nationally ranked cancer hospital, a Veterans Affairs Hospital, and a standalone children’s hospital with high-risk obstetric patients. In addition to the broad case exposure, there are weekly and monthly didactics during protected academic time that includes, lectures, journal clubs, M&Ms, and training at the university’s state-of-the-art simulation center, the Behling Human Simulation Center.
As a results of the vast array of clinical and academic experiences, graduates leave this program confident and ready to start their careers as highly sought-after anesthesiologist leaders who have their choice of job offers and fellowships around the nation. Though you may be hard pressed to leave since Buffalo is an excellent and affordable place to live. Known as the City of Good Neighbors, Buffalo offers a beautiful waterfront and lively downtown area. Here we experience all four seasons with mild summers, picturesque fall foliage, and snowy winters. A mid-sized city with a hometown feel and plenty of fun makes Buffalo appealing to many. Though if you did ever want to get away for the weekend, it is a short drive to Niagara Falls, the Finger Lakes, and Toronto, Ontario. This message wouldn’t be complete without a shout-out to our two professional sports teams: the Buffalo Sabres and our beloved Buffalo Bills.
We cannot wait to meet you and look forward to seeing you at a future Bills tailgate! Congratulations and welcome to the UB family!
Your Chiefs,
Sarah and James
