A Message from our Wellness Chief

Dear future anesthesiology residents,

Hello and welcome to UB! And of course, welcome to your first years of being a part of this amazing field of medicine! Anesthesiology as a practice can be exciting, creative, and fascinating, but also at times, challenging, fast-paced, and stressful. At the University at Buffalo, we strive to offer a great variety of learning experiences, hands-on teaching, and academic lectures as well as promote wellness throughout your residency careers. As the Wellness Chief Resident, my goals are to embrace all of what learning at UB has to offer and create a space for resident wellness. Working with our leadership and office staff, we aim to promote healthy lifestyles, community-building and outreach events, and relaxing workspaces while providing resources and opportunities for residents to have maintain good habits for mental and physical health and work-life balance.

Buffalo, NY is a great place to live, work, and learn! In the summers, we have access to the waterfront, endless hiking and biking trails, outdoor restaurants and many ice cream options. In the autumn, there are countless farms for apple and pumpkin picking, Fall Fest, and Bills games are a short drive to Orchard Park! In the winter, this city makes the most of the snowy, cold season with winter markets, ice skating, hockey games, and snow sports accessible an hour away. Finally, in the spring, the city defrosts with strolls around Delaware Park and the waterfront, the Buffalo Marathon, museums, botanical gardens, and maybe a quick visit to Niagara Falls only 20 minutes away.

Here at UB, we take the opportunity to take feedback from our residents and advocate for their well-being. While rotating at seven different hospitals in the area, residents can still find community. Residency is a challenging, fun, and unique stage of all our careers, and we aim to make wellness one of our priorities throughout your four years!

Sincerely,

Kristine, Wellness Chief Resident
