Message from the Program Director

M. Jeffery Mador, MD.

“Graduates of our fellowship have embarked on gratifying careers at clinics and major research universities across the country and abroad,” says M. Jeffery Mador, MD.

Our rigorous clinical training, enthusiastic faculty, teaching responsibilities and fully-equipped research facilities set you up for success, whether you embark on an academic career or plan to enter clinical practice.

Innovative Research Opportunities

Our three-year fellowship has a strong, ever-expanding research program that provides you with opportunities to embark on projects matched to your interests and goals. Many of our faculty have received national recognition for their innovative research. Alongside a faculty mentor, you’ll undertake 10 modules of research activity. We’ll expose you to clinical trials, basic bench research, translational research and epidemiological and clinical studies.

Helpful Mentors

Our division has a favorable student-to-faculty ratio, which means you’ll receive personalized training from attentive instructors. In our program, you’ll work with seven knowledgeable faculty members who are committed to developing your professionalism and competence in this interesting, exciting specialty.

Our program satisfies all requirements of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education; we ensure that you will be board-eligible in the field. After completing our fellowship, you’ll have the up-to-date knowledge and skills you need to successfully practice as a pulmonologist and critical care intensivist.

Comprehensive Rotations and Electives

Our clinical rotations and electives enhance your ability to diagnose and manage a panoply of pulmonary diseases. You’ll care for patients suffering from conditions including lung cancer, chronic respiratory failure, drug induced lung disease and collagen vascular disease. You’ll learn about procedures ranging from bronchoscopy to thoracentesis, and you’ll become familiar with pulmonary function testing and other diagnostic tests.

Complementary Training Environments

As a fellow in our program, you'll train at our diverse set of affiliated sites; our fellowship prepares you to succeed in a variety of clinical settings. You’ll work in a world-class cancer research center, urban hospitals and a specialty facility for veterans. At our continuity clinics, you’ll develop long-term relationships with your patients while learning state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

We strive to provide you with a beneficial balance of educational curriculum, clinical training, research opportunities and teaching experience. Take a look around our website, and feel free to contact me with questions.

Best regards,
