To provide students with an interest in orthopaedics a base of knowledge and a toolkit of resources to more fully engage with the educational experience of fourth year sub-internships.
By the end of the course, students will be able to
- interpret basic imaging studies
- obtain history and understand the components of a basic physical exam
- splint fractures appropriately
- demonstrate knowledge of anatomy
- demonstrate knowledge of nonsurgical treatment and surgical indications
- provide basic postoperative management and rehab
- list potential complications resulting from injury or procedure
The course will run from March 17–April 14, Monday evenings at 7 p.m. (total of five classes, virtual via zoom).
- Week 1: Introduction, How to Read an XR
- Week 2: Approaching an Orthopaedic Consult
- Week 3: Basics of Bone Healing, Principles of Screws, Principles of Plating
- Week 4: Preparing for a Surgical Case
- Week 5: How to be a good Sub-I
