Cooper 101 Sub-Internship Prep Course

Mission Statement

To provide students with an interest in orthopaedics a base of knowledge and a toolkit of resources to more fully engage with the educational experience of fourth year sub-internships.

Program Objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to

  • interpret basic imaging studies
  • obtain history and understand the components of a basic physical exam
  • splint fractures appropriately
  • demonstrate knowledge of anatomy
  • demonstrate knowledge of nonsurgical treatment and surgical indications
  • provide basic postoperative management and rehab
  • list potential complications resulting from injury or procedure

Curriculum

The course will run from March 17–April 14, Monday evenings at 7 p.m. (total of five classes, virtual via zoom).

  • Week 1: Introduction, How to Read an XR
  • Week 2: Approaching an Orthopaedic Consult
  • Week 3: Basics of Bone Healing, Principles of Screws, Principles of Plating
  • Week 4: Preparing for a Surgical Case
  • Week 5: How to be a good Sub-I
