We welcome students from outside medical schools to spend a four-week rotation at our program.
Existing allopathic or osteopathic students from other university programs within the United States are welcome to apply to take fourth-year clinical electives or sub-internships via Visiting Student Learning Opportunities™ (VSLO®).
The VSLO is an Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) application designed for medical students to apply for senior electives at U.S. medical schools and teaching hospitals. See the VSLO website to apply for an elective.
This opportunity is administered and overseen by the Office of Medical Education (OME).
The demand for educational experiences far exceeds our ability to accommodate them. We have, therefore, established a policy that will keep open visiting student opportunities for domestic students, and we will continue to meet our current exchange program obligations for foreign-trained students.
Supplemental Application required to be considered for an away elective in our department; link is below.
Please note acceptance and completion of an away elective here in Buffalo does not guarantee an interview during recruitment season.
If you are not from Buffalo and need lodging during your rotation, please contact these locations for student housing at reduced rates:
According to the University at Buffalo Policy, international medical graduate students may not participate in clerkships, sub-internships, or rotations through any University-affiliated department.
Our Medical Student Coordinator will be notified of your VSLO application status through the Office of Medical Education. If you have any questions or need further assistance setting up your rotation, please feel free to contact her.
