How to Apply

Our rigorous training program is competitive and selective; on average 75 physicians apply each year, but we can accept only two.

Submitting Your Application

Apply to our fellowship through SF Match, which facilitates the application and selection process.

SF Match will gather your application and related documents, which include:

  • USMLE transcripts
  • medical school transcripts
  • three letters of recommendation

Application Timeline

Important dates — application registration, deadline for application submission, personal interview date and notification of match results — are dependent on SF Match’s calendar each year.

Eligibility

To apply for our program, you must be:

  • licensed — or be able to be licensed — to practice medicine in New York state
  • a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or be in accordance with University Medical Resident Services’ policies on visas
  • a graduate of an ACGME-accredited residency program in the U.S. or complete this training by the time you enter our program
  • board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery

Application Requirements

Application requirements are determined by SF Match. Please note that your application will include:

  • COMLEX scores
  • three letters of recommendation

Interviews

You’ll be invited for a personal interview via SF Match.

During the interview process, you'll have opportunities to meet our current fellows and faculty members, learn about our training sites and get acquainted with Buffalo

We’re devoted to creating a friendly atmosphere. We’ll take you to dinner and a sports game on the evening of your interview.
