Your third year is the time to work toward increased competence and authority.
You’ll begin systematic education and training in pediatric urology during your third year. You’ll start gaining hands-on experience providing comprehensive and compassionate care to children with urologic diseases and disorders.
Further, by the time you finish your third year of training, you should feel ready to provide attentive care to patients of all ages with a variety of conditions, including urinary tract infections, kidney and ureteral stones, erectile dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, urinary incontinence, interstitial cystitis, hematuria, vaginal fistulas and bladder prolapse.
If you join our program, you’ll be trained by faculty members who have decades of collective experience in surgery and in-depth surgical knowledge.
We’ll train you on procedures including:
We’ll also ensure you are well prepared to perform and interpret urodynamic studies, perform ureteral catheterization and serve as first assistant in open surgical urologic procedures.
At Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, we’ll increase your exposure to robotic-assisted procedures.
Starting as a bedside assistant, you’ll see how to provide more precise, efficient outcomes for patients using leading-edge technology. We’ll gradually train you on the robotic console, exposing you to all portions of robotic procedures.
Oishei Children’s Hospital | 4 months |
Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital | 8 months |
During your time at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, you’ll spend 4 months gaining ambulatory experience.
Didactics are a significant component of your training — and we tailor our didactics to our residents’ needs — so we’ll continue to require you to attend all conferences during your third year.
Further, with the exception of our tumor board and surgical skills conferences, we’ll ask you to present at each conference at least once throughout the academic year.
You’ll have opportunities to teach medical students during your rotations at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital and Oishei Children’s Hospital.
