Compliance & Regulatory

In compliance with federal regulations and university policies, the Office of Research Compliance carefully reviews disclosures, effectively manages any conflict-of-interest cases and reports to appropriate federal agencies as needed.

The IACUC must review and approve all animal research in order to maintain the university's high research standards. It does so by following federal and state regulations, which reflect the general concerns of society, along with professional standards of ethical conduct that govern the use of animal subjects in scientific and educational activities.

UB's Human Research Protection Program protects the rights of research volunteers, guided by a 1964 World Medical Organization declaration: “In research on man, the interest of science and society should never take precedence over considerations related to the well-being of the subject.”

A University Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) has been created in accordance with requirements set forth in the National Institutes of Health "Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules."
