"Elevate Your Academic Career: A Workshop Series on Promotion" (Feb. 25 & March 4)

Navigating the path to promotion can be complex, but you don't have to do it alone. This workshop series is designed to support faculty at all stages of their academic careers. Through focused sessions led by the Jacobs School Office of Faculty Affairs, participants will gain a better understanding of the process, expectations and best practices for putting your best foot forward. All workshops will be held on Zoom.

Research Resources Series (March 24 & April 7, 9, 22)

This series covers different aspects of how to write NIH grants. The series is a collaboration between the Jacobs School Office of Faculty Affairs and the Office of the Vice President for Health Sciences. 

Presenter: Gustavo Arrizabalaga, PhD, Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs 

  • March 24: Effective Rhetorical Strategies for the NIH Specific Aims Page
    • Learn how to craft a persuasive and reviewer-friendly Specific Aims page using effective rhetorical strategies. This session highlights key structural patterns, language choices, and framing techniques that help communicate significance, innovation, and feasibility with clarity and impact.
  • April 7: TBA.
  • April 9: Collaborators, PIs, mPIs, Co-Investigators, Consultants and More
    • This session clarifies the many roles that make up an NIH-funded research team. Learn how responsibilities differ among PIs, multi-PIs, co-investigators, consultants, and collaborators, and how to structure a team that aligns with NIH expectations and strengthens the overall competitiveness of your application.

Hands-on Accessibility Support Sessions with CATT

The Jacobs School Office of Faculty Affairs invites you to participate in a hands-on, customized support session focused on creating accessible materials aligned with Title II and WCAG 2.1 AA standards. CATT (Office of Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching Transformation) consultants will provide individualized support grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. 

What to Bring: your laptop and specific projects to work on during the session.

Sessions will take place in room 6201 at the following times:

  • Monday, March 30 (8–10 a.m.)
  • Monday, April 6 (11–1 p.m.)
  • Monday, April 13 (2–4 p.m.)

Converting Your Teaching Into Scholarship Series (Spring/Summer 2026)

The goal of this series is to create a community of practice at Jacobs around publishing teaching scholarship. In each session, we will focus on the different steps necessary to convert teaching activities into publishable scholarship.

WNY Service-Learning Coalition Fall Summit on Healthy Communities

72 faculty, staff, students and community members came together to discuss how to support mutually beneficial university-community partnerships that promote student learning. The event was co-sponsored by the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences' Office of Faculty Affairs and UB’s Office of Inclusive Excellence, with support from the School of Public Health and Health Professions and Office of Student Engagement.
