Graduating Resident Information

Congratulations on completing your resident training program at UB!

The information provided below addresses questions frequently asked by residents as they prepare to leave their resident training program at UB.

Diplomas

All graduation requirements must be met prior to issuance of the diploma including: completion of Core Curriculum modules Program Evaluation Survey and Graduation Survey as well as return of all library materials.  

Other general guidelines for issuance of diplomas include: 

  • Resident Name: Diplomas can only be printed with the name used during resident training at UB.
  • Resident Degree: The degree listed on the diploma will be as stated on the medical school diploma. Residents wishing to have their degree listed as MD must complete the Conferral of Doctor of Medicine Degree process prior to the request for diploma (see Conferral of MD).

Your request must include:

  • Release form signed by the resident 
  • Return address or fax information 
  • Resident’s complete name during residency and social security number 

Requests for verifications of malpractice at Roswell Park Comprehensive Care Center should be sent to Dr. Richard Hershberger in the Education Office via fax at 716-845-8178. For questions, contact Addie Casey at 716-845-3028.

Residency Program Completion/Performance Verification

Requests for verification of program completion and or performance evaluations should be sent to your Residency Program Coordinator for completion.  

Health Insurance

Health insurance provided through UMRS/UDRS will continue until the last day of employment.

Other Benefits

All other benefits provided through UMRS/UDRS continue through the last day of the month in which employment ends.

COBRA Information

Current regulations allow you to purchase health and/or dental insurance coverage for up to 18 months through your employer’s COBRA plan after you leave your residency program. Your life and disability insurance plans also offer conversion privileges that you may want to take advantage of. COBRA information packets are sent to graduating residents in early June of each year. Information packets are sent to residents who are graduating “off‐sync” at the start of the month in which they are scheduled to graduate.
