Chief Resident Leadership Conference

We host a leadership development conference for new chief residents each spring. The conference provides an opportunity for chiefs from all specialties to come together and build their leadership skills.

Popular session topics have included:

  • strategic communication and leadership
  • professionalism
  • caring for your residents
  • resident work hours
  • patient safety
  • quality improvement
  • teaching medical students
  • conflict resolution

The 2025 Chief Resident Leadership Conference

The 2025 Chief Resident Leadership Conference for incoming chiefs will be held on May 5, 2026, from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (955 Main Street).

Conference topics will include:

  • leadership and teamwork
  • residents as educators: moving from feedback to feedforward
  • resident support and well-being: peer support, equity in the learning environment, resources
  • lunch with hospital and academic leaders
  • DISCover your leadership and communication styles

Programs must register new chief residents by April 17, 2026 with the following two (2) lists:

  1. names and email addresses of all chiefs for 2026-2027 (for creation of a listserv)
  2. names of the chiefs who will be attending the conference on May 5 (for registration)
