12 New Faculty Join 6 Medical School Departments

Twelve faculty members with varied research and clinical expertise have joined the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences during the past several months.

Christopher C. Battaglia, MD, is a clinical assistant professor. He completed UB’s medical education program and undertook his internal medicine residency and palliative care fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where he completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine.

He is also an assistant professor of oncology and critical care at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Muhammad A. Ghazi, MD, is a clinical instructor.

Robert G. Lugo, MD, is a clinical instructor.

Christine M. Ho, MD, assistant professor, earned her medical degree from UB.

Ramon E. Rivera, clinical assistant professor, earned his medical degree from Universidad Central del Este in the Dominican Republic.

Kenneth L. Seldeen, PhD, research assistant professor, specializes in geriatric medicine, molecular genetics and nutrition.

He earned his doctoral degree in biochemistry and molecular biology in 2009 from the University of Miami and worked as a postdoctoral associate in the UB Department of Medicine and at the University of Miami.

Chen Gao, MD, PhD, clinical assistant professor, is board certified in cytopathology, anatomical pathology and clinical pathology.

She has special interests in detecting malignant cells in all body sites using light microscopy and immunohistochemistry.

Gao completed a fellowship in cytopathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2015. She earned her doctoral degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University.

Ying Huang, MD, PhD, clinical assistant professor, is board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology and specializes in renal pathology and surgical pathology, especially genitourinary and gynecological pathology.

She completed a residency at UB in 2014 and a fellowship at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2015. She earned her doctoral degree from Marshall University School of Medicine.

Tracey A. Ignatowski, PhD, assistant professor, specializes in behavioral pharmacology, gene expression, gene therapy and immunology. Her research focus spans three interrelated fields: chronic pain, depression and inflammation.

She was previously a research assistant professor in anesthesiology and in pathology and anatomical sciences at UB.

Ignatowski earned her doctoral degree in pathology from UB and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pharmacology and physiology at the University of Rochester.  

Catherine D. Murak, MD, clinical assistant professor, completed UB’s pediatrics residency program in 2014.

She earned her medical degree from the Medical University of the Americas.

Renee M. Triplet, DO, clinical assistant professor, specializes in pediatric critical care medicine.

She completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care at UB in 2015. She earned her doctoral degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Triplet is also an attending physician in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

Harish Malhotra, PhD, is a research associate professor.
