Real-Time Consultations for Primary Care Providers

The program, headquartered at UB, is a unique collaboration between five university departments of psychiatry (UB, Columbia University Medical Center, Hofstra Northwell Health, University of Rochester and SUNY Upstate in Syracuse) to provide support to primary care providers in more than 90 percent of the state.

CAP-PC is a child psychiatry access and collaborative care program that utilizes a toll-free phone line to provide real-time psychiatric and telepsychiatric consultations for primary care providers.

The program also emphasizes formal education for primary care providers, and it has been the largest provider of continuing medical education of any child psychiatric access program in the United States.

Founded in 2010, CAP-PC is funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health as a component program of Project TEACH.

Awards Recognize Innovative Programs

CAP-PC’s program director is David L. Kaye, MD, professor of psychiatry and vice chair of academic affairs in the department.

Since 1949, the APA’s Psychiatric Services Achievement Awards have recognized creative models of service delivery and innovative programs for persons with mental illness or disabilities. CAP-PC is the first UB program to receive this award.
