Journal Club enriches your analytical skills while reinforcing the principles of evidence-based medicine in clinical care.

Case-Based Lecture

During this monthly series, third-year residents formulate a case-based clinical question, present an article that answers it and appraise the article.

Though we favor a lecture style, our presenters encourage participation from junior residents by using break-out sessions and providing worksheets to help participants analyze the article.

In addition to residents, clinical and research faculty attend and contribute to discussions.

Past Journal Club discussions have covered such topics as:

  • statin use and risk of diabetes in postmenopause
  • a “wait-and-see” prescription for acute otitis media
  • walking as an intervention for low back pain
  • azithromycin for prevention of COPD exacerbations
  • laparoscopic gastric banding to prevent Type 2 diabetes
  • antenatal thyroid screening and childhood cognitive function
