New Faculty in 13 Departments Bring Broad Experience to School

Thirty-three faculty members with diverse backgrounds and expertise have joined the school’s faculty over the past several months.

Heather M. Territo, MD, is a clinical assistant professor who specializes in pediatric emergency medicine.

Territo joined the faculty after completing her fellowship at UB.

Kristina R. Bradfield-McGee, DO, is a clinical assistant professor who specializes in pediatric emergency medicine. 

Bradfield-McGee joined the faculty after completing her fellowship at UB.

Mahmoud Kallash, MD, is a clinical assistant professor who specializes in pediatric nephrology.

Kallash comes to UB from the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, where he completed his fellowship and was chief fellow.

Leena Mamilly, MD, is a clinical assistant professor. 

Mamilly comes to UB from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.

Umesh Sharma, MD, PhD, is a cardiologist with specialized training in advanced cardiac imaging.

Sharma is an assistant professor; he comes to UB from Massachusetts General Hospital, where he completed his advanced cardiac imaging fellowship. 

Luis Alfredo Bent-Shaw, MD, is a clinical assistant professor who specializes in nephrology. 

Bent-Shaw comes to UB from the University of Washington. 

Fida Al-Atrash, MD, is an assistant professor who specializes in internal medicine.

Al-Atrash comes to UB from Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Siva Harsha Yedlapati, MBBS, MPH, is a clinical assistant professor.

Yedlapati joined the faculty after completing his residency at UB. 

Nitesh D. Kuhadiya, MD, MPH, is a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes.

Kuhadiya joined the faculty after completing his fellowship at UB.

Manhui Pang, MD, is a research assistant professor.

Pang comes to UB from the University of Miami, where she was a research assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine.

Roslyn R. Romanowski, MD, is a clinical assistant professor specializing in hematology and oncology.

Manav Batra, MD, is a clinical assistant professor who specializes in endocrinology.

Batra joined the faculty after completing his fellowship at UB.

Nauman Tahir, MBBS, is an assistant professor.

Roberto Pili, MD, is a professor.

George L. Chen, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Matthew L. Ruggieri, MD, is a clinical assistant professor who has special interests in neuropsychiatric manifestations of brain disease, geriatric psychiatry and somatic therapeutic modalities, including electroconvulsive therapy.

Ruggieri comes to UB from Maine Medical Center, where he completed his residency.

Zhanna (Jane) Elberg, MD, is a clinical assistant professor who specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry.

Elberg joined the faculty after completing her fellowship at UB.

Won H. Park, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Stephen C. Williams, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Christopher J. Deline, MD, is a clinical assistant professor who specializes in cerebrovascular disease.

Deline comes to UB from Washington University in St. Louis, where he completed his vascular neurology fellowship.

Michael G. Dwyer III, PhD, is an assistant professor who comes to UB after completing his doctoral degree at the University of Bradford.

Dwyer is technical imaging director of the Buffalo Neuroimaging Analysis Center; his research focuses on the development and application of quantitative image analysis methods to neuroimaging data in order to better characterize the onset, progression and treatment of neurological diseases.

Ashkan Mowla, MD, is an assistant professor who specializes in cerebrovascular disease.

Mowla’s research interests include stroke prevention in those who have experienced transient ischemic attack and stroke, acute stroke treatment, stroke imaging and the critical care of patients with cerebrovascular diseases.

Peyman Shirani, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Shirani comes to UB from the University of California, San Francisco, where he completed his neurovascular fellowship.

Tova S. Ablove, MD, is a clinical assistant professor who specializes in urogynecology. 

Ablove has special interests in incontinence, aging of the pelvic floor and associated diseases. She comes to UB from the University of Wisconsin.

Laura J. Rayner, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Her interests include multidisciplinary health outcomes research. Rayner joined the faculty after completing her residency at UB.

Mark D. Parker, PhD, is an assistant professor who has research expertise in acid-base homeostasis, ion transport and molecular biology.

Parker comes to UB from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Robert H. Ablove, MD, is a clinical associate professor who specializes in orthopaedic surgery, including hand and shoulder surgery. 

Ablove comes to UB from the University of Wisconsin Hospital.

Department of Biomedical Informatics

Peter L. Elkin, MD, professor and founding chair of the new UB department, is also a professor of internal medicine.

Elkin’s major research interests include clinical genomic and translational informatics, controlled health vocabularies, knowledge representation, natural language processing, ontologies, information retrieval, human factors engineering, clinical decision support systems and electronic medical records.

Ira J. Blader, PhD, is an associate professor who focuses on immunology, infectious disease, microbial pathogenesis, microbiology, molecular basis of disease, signal transduction and vision science.

Blader comes to UB from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Rong Rong, MD, PhD, is a clinical assistant professor who specializes in renal pathology.

Rong comes to UB from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was a surgical pathology fellow.

Raymond D. Sroka, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Sroka joined the faculty after completing a UB residency.

John Pollina, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Renee M. Reynolds, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Mariel Rivero, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.
