Dear Jacobs School community:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Sandra Fernando Sieminski, MD, as interim chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo.
Dr. Sieminski brings valuable experience to this interim role, notably through her service as vice chair of clinical affairs. In this capacity, she has played a key part in overseeing the department’s clinical operations and supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care. Her leadership in this area will be especially beneficial as the department moves forward during this transition.
Dr. Sieminski also serves as clinical associate professor, director of glaucoma services, and clerkship director at the Jacobs School. She leads ophthalmology services at Erie County Medical Center and represents the department on the Medical Executive Committee at the Center for Ambulatory Services.
She succeeds James D. Reynolds, MD ’78, the Jerald and Ester Bovino Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology, who retired in July after many years of dedicated service. With the national search for a permanent chair — led by Mikhail V. Pletnikov, MD, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics — now underway, the department will benefit from Dr. Sieminski’s steady guidance and commitment to patient-centered care during this transition.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Sieminski on her appointment as interim chair.
Sincerely,
Allison Brashear, MD, MBA
