Associate Dean for Research Integration
Teresa Quattrin, MD, UB Distinguished Professor, works closely with the dean and other senior leaders to promote integrated, collaborative research not only within the medical school and across the health sciences schools, but also with non-health-related schools at UB, outside affiliates and community stakeholders. An internationally recognized expert in Type 1 diabetes and obesity, she is actively involved in clinical translational research and clinical trials.
Quattrin also collaborates with university researchers, community organizations and policymakers to identify and frame possible areas of synergies and address the challenges often faced with these efforts that may hinder their frequency and success. An accomplished researcher herself, Quattrin’s goal is to create opportunities for “team science” across departments and UB schools that will ultimately lead to additional extramural funding.
Quattrin served as the A. Conger Goodyear Chair of the Department of Pediatrics from 2010 to 2017. Under her leadership, the department recruited outstanding physician-scientists and clinician-educators; significantly increased annual research expenditures through extramural grant funding and clinical trials; improved its undergraduate and graduate medical education programs and expanded general and specialty pediatric inpatient and outpatient clinical services. Quattrin is an emeritus member of the Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairs, where she served on the board of directors and several key committees.
Quattrin earned a medical degree from the University of Naples School of Medicine. She completed her residency in pediatrics at both the University of Naples and UB; she also completed her fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at UB.
