Associate Dean for Admissions
Fred D. Archer III, MD, associate dean for admissions, is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the MD admissions process at the Jacobs School.
A Western New York native who has been a member of the Department of Pediatrics since 2004, he has played key roles in various educational and community initiatives, particularly those geared toward promoting medicine as a career for underrepresented groups. He has served on the Jacobs School admissions committee and as the diversity and inclusion advocate in the Department of Pediatrics, where he is a clinical assistant professor.
Board-certified in pediatrics, Archer is currently the interim chief of the Division of General Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics and UBMD Pediatrics and serves as the president of the Buffalo chapter of the National Medical Association, the largest and oldest national organization representing African American physicians and their patients.
In 2017, he was inducted into the Richard Sarkin Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, which promotes and encourages the treatment of the whole patient.
Since 2020, he has served as a board member of the Buffalo Prenatal-Perinatal Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to comprehensively improving the prenatal and perinatal health for Women and Families in Western New York.
Archer graduated from Cornell University and earned a Masters degree from UB. He earned his MD from the Howard University College of Medicine in 2001.
