Senior Associate Dean for Biomedical Education
John C. Panepinto, PhD, is senior associate dean for biomedical education and professor of microbiology and immunology. He is responsible for oversight of the entire biomedical educational program, including all the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Panepinto is tasked with the development, delivery and success of the programs, which include strategic planning and management of the curriculum. In addition, Panepinto works with other education leaders in the school to assure an inclusive learning environment in which all students are supported and can reach their full potential.
Panepinto received his doctoral degree in pathobiology and molecular medicine from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He earned bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and biology from Virginia Tech.
Panepinto is actively engaged in training master’s and doctoral students in his laboratory on NIH-funded projects that focus on understanding stress adaptation in environmental fungi that are pathogens to humans.
He was honored with the Faculty Award of Excellence in promoting diversity and cultural inclusion in 2021.
