Mass Participation Events

You’ll gain insights into the organization of mass participation athletic events and how to medically manage patients in these settings.

Specifically, you’ll care for area runners at Buffalo’s Subaru 4-Mile Chase and the Turkey Trot, North America’s oldest continually running public footrace.

Depending on the year, you may also care for participants in the Empire State Games, an Olympic-style competition for amateur athletes from New York State.

At these large athletic events, you’ll learn how to:

  • anticipate injury and illness
  • make return-to-participation decisions
  • care for patients of varying ages and athletic abilities
