Pilot Application of Medication Safety and Empowerment Curriculum (MedSEC) to Primary Care Group Visits

This pilot study evaluates whether delivering the Team Alice Medication Safety and Empowerment Curriculum (MedSEC) through primary care group visits improves medication safety knowledge, patient and care‑partner activation, and medication use among adults aged 60 and older. Before their Annual Wellness Visit (AWV), participants attend two interactive educational sessions with pre- and post-session assessments, including completion of a medication list. After the participant’s AWV with their provider, an evaluation of medication changes will be conducted. The project aims to determine whether empowering patients and care‑partners with medication safety knowledge and communication skills can reduce polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medication use in real‑world primary care settings.
