Our two-year fellowship program combines participating faculty from the departments of Medicine and Pediatrics.
Our cross-departmental collaboration allows for strong clinical training and excellent research opportunities spanning the broad spectrum of allergic and immunologic medicine (asthma, food allergy, atopic dermatitis, primary immunodeficiencies and other allergic conditions).
Our two-year fellowship is fully integrated in both the Department of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics, with significant cross-training in pediatric and adult allergy and clinical immunology.
You will gain valuable clinical and research experience in the fields of allergy and clinical immunology. We provide all fellows with opportunities to apply immunologic theories, principles and techniques to the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of a broad spectrum of allergic and immunologic diseases.
Our areas of clinical strength include: asthma, allergic disorders, drug reactions, urticaria, primary immunodeficiency diseases, food allergy and autoimmune diseases.
Educational features of our training program include:
Clinical education includes direct patient contact in both the outpatient and inpatient settings, clinical care conferences and record reviews. Fellows provide inpatient consultations to the medical and pediatric services for allergic and immunologically-mediated disorders. You will also participate in the following outpatient clinical activities:
Elective rotations in ENT, dermatology and laboratory immunology are available.
You will train in diverse clinical sites, including Buffalo General Medical Center, Oishei Children's Hospital, UBMD Pediatrics outpatient centers, and VA Medical Center.
Our faculty are involved in a number of research projects, in both clinical and basic immunology. You will develop and complete your own research project(s). We provide our fellows with a structured research experience sufficient to result in an understanding of the basic principles of study design, performance, analysis and reporting of the assigned area of investigation. Some of these areas include/have included:
Our comprehensive fellowship training program in allergy/immunology is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Allergy Immunology (ABAI).
