ASPET SURF Application

Welcome to the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Application at the University at Buffalo! 

Thank you for your interest in the SURF program. This opportunity is designed to provide paid hands-on research experience, mentorship and professional development for students passionate about advancing their knowledge in biomedical, behavioral and STEM sciences with research focus on pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, drug discovery, translational research and related disciplines. 

Summer 2026 Information

The 2026 SURF Program will run from May 26 to July 31, 2026.

Application Deadline: Jan. 20, 2026.

Application Materials

Please gather the following before starting the application as it must be completed in one sitting:
  • Personal statement
  • CV
  • Latest academic transcripts (unofficial copies are accepted)
  • Names and email addresses of the individuals that will provide letters of reference

Please read Application Procedures (below) before you begin as you cannot return to finish the application. 

Please thoroughly complete the following Summer 2026 SURF Application to help us understand your background, interests and goals.

Fully complete online application with all sections filled out, which includes the following:

  • Biography (please complete all questions in this section) 
  • Personal statement that addresses the following points: 
    • Summarize your educational trajectory, highlighting experiences, challenges and/or barriers which may have contributed and/or affected your success. 
    • Describe experiences/circumstances supporting interest in scientific research 
    • Describe any relevant research experience that you may have (e.g., labs, workshops, tutorials, courses, internship)  
    • Describe how the summer research experience could contribute to your career goals   
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) may address the following areas of your professional development as applicable:
    • Name/Address / Affiliation

    • Employment

    • Community Leadership and Involvement
    • Skills and Interests
    • Other Information  
  • Academic Transcripts (unofficial copy accepted). 
  • Two letters of recommendation supporting your application to the Summer 2026 ASPET SURF program. These should preferably come from research advisors, professors or supervisors. 
    • At the end of this application form, you will be asked to enter the recommenders contact information.
    • The recommender will receive a confirmation email of successful submission where they can upload the letter in a separate form.
