The ASPET Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship seeks to attract undergraduates to participate in  outstanding laboratory research experiences as they prepare for advanced graduate and professional degrees and future careers in pharmacology and toxicology, drug discovery, pharmaceutical sciences, neuroscience, and related disciplines.

  • All SURF scholars become members of ASPET
  • Opportunity to win a travel award to attend ASPET Conference
  • The 2026 SURF Program will run from May 26 to July 31, 2026
  • Application deadline is Jan. 20, 2026

Eligibility

Rising sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Overview of Summer Activities

  • introduction to Laboratory Skills Course
  • weekly BIOSTEM lecture*
  • mentored research communications workshops to work on posters and oral talks*
  • present poster and oral talks at Research Days*
  • complete evaluation at end of summer*
  • research in areas of drug discovery and translational research
  • discipline-specific research, career, professional development and networking by SURF director and research mentors

Funding

Students are funded by an American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics grant and matching funds by Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
