21 New Faculty Join 7 Medical School Departments

Timothy D. Quinn, MD, assistant professor, joined the department from Holy Cross Hospital in Maryland. He completed a critical care medicine fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital-Harvard Medical School in 2013.

Quinn is also a clinical assistant professor of anesthesiology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Raphael Mark, MD, assistant professor.

Sophia R. Balderman, MD, assistant professor.

Patrick M. Boland, MD, assistant professor.

Sean P. Brady, MD, assistant professor, specializes in allergy and immunology. He has a range of clinical interests, including allergic rhinitis, asthma and immune system deficiencies. He completed fellowship training in his field at Washington University School of Medicine in 2015.

Shirley S. Chang, MD, assistant professor, specializes in nephrology and renal transplantation. She completed a fellowship in transplant nephrology at Erie County Medical Center in 2011.

Deepa K. Gosine, MD, assistant professor, specializes in internal medicine and pediatrics. 

Scott C. Gruarin, DO, assistant professor.

Anuradha Mendu, MD, assistant professor.

Russell M. Moore, MD, assistant professor, completed a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at UB in 2015.

Adil Shujaat, MD, associate professor, comes to UB from the University of Florida at Jacksonville, where he received several awards for exemplary teaching. He’s a board-certified specialist in pleural and pulmonary vascular diseases, particularly World Health Organization Group III pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary embolism.

In 2006, Shujaat completed fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals of Columbia University.

Colin B. Tauro, MD, assistant professor.

Deirdre A. Wheat, MD, assistant professor.

Rabi Yacoub, MD, assistant professor, cares for patients with a wide variety of renal diseases and manages resistant hypertension. His research focuses on finding modifiable factors to reverse or halt the progression of chronic kidney disease. He completed a nephrology fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2015.

Moeen I. Abu-Sitta, MD, associate professor, treats women for pre- and postmenopausal conditions. He has subspecialty expertise in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery. 

A former UB volunteer faculty member, Abu-Sitta has participated in two medical mission trips to the Gaza Strip to care for patients and train physicians in urogynecology.

Lin Liu, MD, PhD, assistant professor, comes to UB with extensive research experience and training. Her interests include general surgical pathology (with a focus on medical renal and genitourinary pathology), immunology and molecular pathology. 

She completed fellowship training in surgical pathology at Pennsylvania Hospital-Penn Medicine in 2015.

Hui Zhu, MD, PhD, assistant professor, is board-certified in cytopathology, anatomic and clinical pathology. Her interests include gynecological, head and neck, genitourinary and soft tissue pathology.

She completed a fellowship in cytopathology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2015. She earned her doctoral degree from Cornell University’s Weill Medical College in 2006.

Stephanie Anzman-Frasca, PhD, assistant professor, comes to UB from Tufts University, where she was an adjunct instructor and research associate in the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. Her research focuses on helping children make healthy eating choices.

She earned her doctorate in human development and family studies from Pennsylvania State University in 2011.

Stephanie R. Straka, DO, assistant professor, specializes in developmental pediatrics and rehabilitation.

She completed a fellowship in developmental and behavioral pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center-Golisano Children’s Hospital in 2015.
