GME Program Director Award of Excellence

This award recognizes one program director annually who best exemplifies qualities of a leader, effective educator, resident advocate and role model. 

Eligibility

Program directors of a University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences-sponsored accredited residency or fellowship program with one or more years of experience are eligible.

Award Criteria

The nominee should make outstanding contributions to UB Graduate Medical Education, going above and beyond by:

  1. demonstrating compassion, integrity and a commitment to improving performance of self and others
  2. making positive contributions to UB Graduate Medical Education through participation on local, regional or national committees, work groups and presentations in support of peer to peer education
  3. involvement in activities exhibiting nominee’s leadership qualities
  4. commitment to innovation and maintaining (or exceeding) the high standards of the accrediting body
Submissions that do not cite examples supporting the award criteria will not be considered.

Nomination

A minimum of three narratives must be submitted:

Each nomination submitted should exemplify why your nominee is deserving of the GME Program Director Award of Excellence. The submission should address the award criteria in 500 words or less, and provide details that support the nominee's involvement to document the criteria as noted above.

Please ensure submission of a very robust narrative on behalf of your candidate.

Required Nominations

Three nomination letters are required from:

  • department chair or division chief
  • a resident or fellow
  • the training program administrator

Additional Nominations

You may submit one additional nomination from any of these constituencies for a total of four:

  • dean
  • faculty member
  • UB-affiliated hospital leader

Funding Details

An award of $900 will be granted to an exemplary candidate and can be used toward registration at or travel to a national meeting, or in support of extra educational program initiatives to benefit residents and fellows. The award must be claimed by December 31, 2023.

Timeline

  • Thursday, August 24, 2023: Call for nominations reopen
  • Monday, September 25, 2023: Completed application packets are due to the office of Graduate Medical Education via the online submission form.
  • Monday, October 9, 2023: We notify award recipients.
