Fall 2020 and COVID information

The University at Buffalo, in Fall 2020, will have multiple forms of delivering education. With Fall 2020’s various instructional modes, it is essential for each student is responsible to take the time to make sure their technology is up-to-date and working properly. 

Biotechnical and Clinical Laboratory Sciences Technology Requirements

All BCLS students are required to have access to a computer and printer.  Students are required to confirm with UB IT that their computer and related devices meet the minimum technology requirements. Students must also have basic skills and proficiencies as noted below.

Basic Skills and Proficiencies

  • Word processing software
  • Excel software
  • Internet-based UB email, and proficiency in sending email attachments
  • Search engine proficiency (example:  Google, Bing, etc.)
  • Internet browsers (example:  chrome, Firefox, etc.)

Required Computing Devices

  • Windows 10 or later
  • Audio/visual capabilities
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Headset with boom microphone
  • Webcam
  • Lock-down browser

Internet Access – Broadband Specifics

  • High speed internet access
  • Wired connections recommended

Learning Management System

UB Information Technology (UBIT)

Registered UB students have access to free software, including Microsoft Office, anti-virus programs, and remote learning videoconferencing/ video-chatting programs (Zoom, WebEx, etc.).  Registered UB students also have access to printing on-campus.
