Inpatient Rehabilitation Service

You’ll use medical and psychotherapeutic interventions to treat patients for drug and alcohol dependence during this unopposed rotation.

You’ll learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of psychoactive substance use and dependence. Using standard criteria, you’ll evaluate patients to determine the most appropriate level of care.

You’ll become competent managing inpatient rehabilitation for patients abusing alcohol, prescription drugs and street drugs, including cocaine, heroin and amphetamines. You’ll also medically manage patients on medications for opioid use disorder.

You’ll use a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches to treat addiction, including:

  • cognitive-behavioral therapy
  • 12-step facilitation
  • motivation enhancement
  • psychodynamic therapy
