Electives

Herbert Young and Timothy Petrie.

“Our electives give us the opportunity to reinforce and strengthen our procedural skills,” says fellow Timothy Petrie, right, with faculty member Herbert Young.

We offer you distinct electives in advanced cardiac imaging and cardiac surgery — as well as the opportunity to use your elective time to enrich your training in any of the areas covered during rotations.

You may take additional rotations as electives. Delving more deeply into these specialties not only reinforces your expertise for practice, but prepares you for further fellowship training.

If you have an interest in heart failure, you may take electives in this field at Strong Memorial Hospital in nearby Rochester, NY.

You may also use elective hours to conduct research.

All of our electives are taken in four-week modules.

  • Advanced Cardiac Imaging
    3/7/16
Perform and interpret CT and MRI studies, gaining experience in advanced imaging techniques.
  • Cardiac Surgery
    3/7/16
Working in one of the country’s top 15 cardiac surgery programs, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of pre- and postoperative considerations for cardiac patients as you observe common cardiac surgeries.
