Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Training Pathway (PCTP)

In accordance with the dean’s and university president’s guidance to foster an environment of scholarly activities and advance research and education at UB, the Internal Medicine Residency Program have partnered with the Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program and developed a training pathway for those interested in career in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine academics. Goals are set to nourish and develop those interested in being academicians and/or Clinicians in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine.

Overview

This pathway is structured to provide residents with a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes a high volume of procedural experience and a strong foundation in academic medicine. Our goal is to enhance your preparedness for Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship, equipping you with the essential skills, clinical acumen, and knowledge necessary to excel in this challenging field. In addition, this pathway helps develop leadership, teamwork, research and innovation skills that make residents strong candidates for fellowship.

The training pathway will consist of modification of the trainee schedule as the following:

  1. Adherence to ACGME requirements for completion of training in Internal Medicine
  2. Hands-on experience in a variety of clinical Pulmonary and Critical Care rotations (Including POCUS, Interventional Pulmonary, Critical Care Units such as Trauma, Burn, Cardiac, Neuro…)
  3. A dedicated research rotation in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

Tailored Opportunities

In addition to the Pulmonary and Critical Care training and electives, residents on the pathway will benefit from the following:

  • Semiannual meetings with the Pulmonary/Critical Care program director and faculty to discuss goals and progress
  • Mentorship pairing for research projects
  • Weekly didactic Pulmonary and Critical Care Conferences
  • Opportunities to attend and present research/abstracts at national and international Pulmonary and Critical Care conferences such as ATS, CHEST and SCCM
